![]() William M. LandingProfessor Emeritus, Florida State University, USAWilliam Landing has degrees in Chemistry (UC Santa Cruz, BS, 1975 and Ph.D. 1983) and Chemical Oceanography (University of Washington, MS, 1978). He studied river chemistry in California and the aquatic speciation of trace elements in Swedish and Norwegian fjords during two post-doctoral appointments. He joined the faculty in the Department of Oceanography at Florida State University in 1985 and retired to emeritus professor status from the FSU Department of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Science in Spring 2020. His research interests include the biogeochemistry of trace elements in marine and fresh waters, with emphasis on the effects of biological and inorganic processes on dissolved-particulate fractionation, solution speciation, and redox chemistry. He has developed analytical schemes for the study of trace element concentrations, equilibrium complexes, and redox states in natural waters and the atmosphere, including the chemistry and deposition of atmospheric aerosols and precipitation, and mercury cycling in atmospheric and aquatic environments. Bill has served as program chair and chair of the ACS Geochemistry Division and as a member of the US GEOTRACES Steering Committee. He is currently the co-chair of the international GEOTRACES Data Management Committee and an associate editor for Marine Chemistry. Lecture: Aerosol chemistry, deposition, and ecosystem effects |
