Rob Middag
NIOZ, Netherlands
Rob Middag is a chemical oceanographer at the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ) and an honorary professor at the University of Groningen. His research focuses on the biogeochemical cycling of trace metals and their role as micronutrients in the ocean. He has made major contributions to understanding the distribution and speciation of elements such as iron, manganese, and aluminum, particularly in polar and Southern Ocean environments.
Dr. Middag is actively involved in the international GEOTRACES program and is recognized for his expertise in ultra-clean sampling and analysis of trace elements in seawater. His work helps unravel how trace metals influence marine productivity and global elemental cycles in a changing climate.
