Rhiannon studies the influence of glacial meltwater and glacial sediments upon trace element and macronutrient cycling in the polar regions, using a combination of stable (Si, O) and radiogenic (Ra, Th) isotopes, and high-precision microscopy (STXM). She is particularly interested in how the rapidly changing Antarctic region will influence biogeochemical cycles in the Southern Ocean, and the importance of (nano)particulate material as a source of potentially bioavailable nutrients (e.g. Fe, Mn, Si). |
